Uig Gala 2007

Chilly but dry... and then wet! Here's an Uig News report from Kirsty Wade on the Hill Race:

The hill race was really well supported this year with over 70 competitors. Well done to everyone who 'had a go' and many thanks also to those who paid up 'not to run'!!  Apologies to those participants who ran towards the end of the afternoon when wet conditions made it increasingly more difficult to register good times.

There was some fierce competition in the Senior Boys category. William Smith was the first brave competitor. He sprinted up the hill and ran a very fast time that initially proved very hard to beat. Halfway through the afternoon there was a turning point when Fraser Cullen warmed up and post two excellent and unbeatable times. Congratulations to Fraser who was not just fastest in his category but also fastest overall.

The Male Senior event was dominated by a Steward's Enquiry involving some dubious tactics involving 'ankle tapping tackles' performed by Kenny Mould on his rivals! Watch out for revenge next year.

Has there been some secret family training this year? The MacKellars had a double victory with Duncan MacKellar winning the Primary category and his mum Kirsty winning the Senior event for the second year in a row. This year, astonishingly, there was a third generation entry from this family with Dr Hay striding up the hill in great style.

Thank you all again for being so enthusiastic on a rather damp afternoon. Congratulations to all competitors and winners and see you next year!
